I provide assessment and management for children, adolescents, adults, and families. The therapy can be undertaken in various ways.

Individual Therapy

Individual therapy is integral to recovery from an eating disorder. My approach is person-centred, flexible, and supportive. Once we’ve completed an initial assessment, I can discuss with you the most effective treatment models available for your individual case.

Group Therapy

Group therapy is increasingly recognised as an imperative part of healing from an eating disorder. Groups can dissolve isolation, untie shame, and foster meaningful connections. Being heard and seen by others who are experiencing similar challenges can help people understand they are not alone.

Family Therapy

Family-based treatment (also known as the Maudsley method) is the leading treatment for child and adolescent eating disorders. Treatment involves the whole family and focuses on empowering parents as a crucial treatment resource to assist in their child’s recovery.

Support Groups

Our monthly support groups are a safe space to discuss recovery with individuals who understand what you are going through, and to get the information and inspiration you need to continue your recovery journey.

My Approach

I am a firm believer and advocate of achieving a full, wholistic recovery, not just symptom improvement or weight restoration. It might be difficult to imagine or believe this when you are under the spell of the eating disorder, but recovery is ALWAYS possible, and ALWAYS worth it. My goal is to empower clients to reconnect with their inner, true self and reclaim their lives.

I would love to go on this journey with you.

 WHAT PEOPLE ASK

FAQ

Q: What eating disorders do you treat?

I am experienced in treating all kind of eating, dieting, and body image issues, including:
• Anorexia Nervosa;
• Bulimia Nervosa;
• Binge Eating Disorder;
• Compulsive Overeating;
• Orthorexia Nervosa
• Avoidant Restrictive Intake Disorder (ARFID);
• Other Specified Feeding or Eating Disorder (OSFED);
• and co-occurring mental illnesses including depression, anxiety, and obsessive compulsive disorder.

Q: Can I claim through Medicare or a private health fund?

Medicare
If you have a valid Mental Health Care Plan Medicare or Eating Disorder Plan Medicare will rebate $126.50 per individual session and $32.60 per group therapy session.

Private Health Insurance
Clients with private healthcare coverage may be eligible for rebates on psychological services, please contact your provider for further information. Note, it is not possible to access both a Medicare rebate and a health insurance rebate for the same service, however you may choose to use your health insurance once you have used all your Medicare sessions.

Financial Hardship
Reduced fees are available for those suffering financial hardship - please contact me for more information.

Q: What is the difference between an Eating Disorder Plan and Mental Health Care Plan?

A Mental Health Care Plan gives you access to a Medicare rebate of $126.50 per session for up to 20 psychological treatment sessions per calendar year. You will require a review from your GP after 6, 10, and 16 sessions in order to access the full 20 sessions under your care plan.

An Eating Disorder Plan gives you access to up to 40 psychological sessions and 20 dietetic sessions within a 12 month period. You will need to be regularly reviewed by your GP and also attend a specialist review with a psychiatrist/paediatrician to access the full 40 sessions. You are eligible for an Eating Disorder Plan if you have a diagnosis of Anorexia Nervosa. If you have a diagnosis of Bulimia Nervosa, Binge Eating Disorder or Other Specified Feeding or Eating Disorder you may also be eligible and your GP can assess if you meet the eligibility criteria.

Both types of plans will be lodged by your GP and I will require a copy of both the care plan and the referral letter.

Q: How long does treatment take?

It varies! Research tells us that treatment for bulimia nervosa takes an average of 6 months, whereas anorexia nervosa may take up to a year, but can also take longer. With speedy diagnosis and early intervention it can sometimes be shorter. Eating disorders are difficult illnesses but the good news is that full and lasting recovery is possible.

HELLO

I’m Dr Franzisca “Francesca” Froreich, a clinical psychologist specialising in eating disorders, disordered eating, and body image concerns. I hold a Masters of Clinical Psychology and a PhD in eating disorders. I am trained in eating disorder specific therapies such as CBT-E, DBT and Maudsley Family Based Therapy and have experience working with children, adolescents, families, and adults.

It takes courage to seek support and many people feel ambivalent about recovery when they first engage in therapy. My aim is to meet my clients wherever they are on their path, to help them understand their stories and how their eating and body image concerns developed, and encourage new ways of communicating and coping.

I truly believe that there is a pathway to recovery for everyone. Get in touch to start your journey today.
